USMC / US army reversible frog skin camouflage Herringbone Twill / HBT jacket.
Frog skin camouflage reversible jacket showing green shades on the outside and brown shades on the inside. This jacket is equipped with plastic composite buttons and has two large square breast pockets.
The right front pocket is sewn a bit lower than the left front pocket, which appears to be a trait of a particular WW2 manufacturer. Dimension from the pockets’ bottom to the bottom of the jacket:
Left pocket : 6 3/8”
Right pocket: 5 7/8”
The QM tag is present in the pocket, but unfortunately illegible.
The gas flap has been nicely removed, which was a commonly observed practice during WW2. Remnant of the gas flap sewing can still be observed on the upper part of the jacket, close to the collar.
A fabric code is located on the left side, under the collar.
The size tag on the collar is present and is marked 34R. This jacket is a large fit and it easily compares to a M41 38R size. Please refer to the dimensions of the mannequin that was used to display this jacket.
This type of jacket was used for a short period on the Normandy front by the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment (2nd Armored Division) but was quickly stopped due to friendly fire casualty caused by unfamiliarity of the US soldiers with this camouflage clothing.
Please see illustration photograph listed showing a private from the 41st AIR in Normandy. This photograph is for illustration purpose only and is not part of the sale.
