Scarce 1940s white cotton sweatshirt. Great blue ink design printed on the front including a large Air Transport Command (ATC) logo in the center, "5th Ferrying Group" and "Love Field, Texas" printed in bold letters. The "Sportswear" tag is still attached to the collar.

The 5th Ferrying Group was formed in 1942, transferred to Love Field, TX in September of the same year and was discontinued at the end of WWII. The primary mission of the 5th Ferrying Group was to ferry planes from local factories to Army airbase hubs and front lines by men and women, including the famous Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP).

This sweatshirt came out of the trunk of a veteran who served in the 5th Ferrying Gp. A T-shirt with the same logo was found with it and is also offered for sale on this website.
